Real-Time Occupancy

Real-time data is the backbone of any intelligent control system in rail transport. At DB Lightgate, this means not only live detection of occupancy data, but also complete processing and delivery to your systems within seconds.

The latency between acquiring a raw value at the sensor and completing the occupancy calculation on our servers is under 3 seconds. Immediately, the value is linked with a specific train journey from the customer’s system—including train number, line, and direction—and then transmitted to the desired output channels.

Real-time train occupancy data can be used for numerous use casesReal-time availability means reacting before problems occur. That’s exactly what DB Lightgate enables—from within the infrastructure, reliably, and without delay.

Key Use Cases for Real-Time Occupancy Data

Provide passengers with information on available space in each train via displays and mobile apps.

Enable dispatchers to make informed decisions by responding to actual occupancy levels at key network nodes.

Feed live data into dashboards and early-warning systems to track and address capacity issues at critical points.

Integration with Your IT Systems

To ensure our measurements are linked to specific train journeys and can be used immediately, we establish interfaces between the DB Lightgate server and your IT systems. Through these interfaces, we receive information on train journeys occurring at the equipped locations, and you receive complete datasets for your use cases.
